E-NewsProduct Selector Available On-Line
GSI Lumonics (Unterschleissheim, Germany) has added an on-line product selector to its Web site, www.gsilumonics.com. Based on the answers to four easy questions, the product selector instantly provides users with a list of recommended systems suited for their laser cutting, welding, and drilling applications.
The user begins the selection process by specifying an application from a list of choices, such as seam welding, precision cutting, or trepan drilling. The material to be cut, welded, or drilled is then selected. Next, the user provides additional details, such as weld penetration or cutting thickness. Finally, the minimum processing speed is entered. Based on these data, the program displays a list of recommended systems for each specific application requirement.
For applications that are not included in the product selector, users can submit questions via e-mail to an applications engineer, who will provide an answer within two business days.
Technical Seminars on the Web
A new Malvern Instruments (Malvern, Worcs, UK) Web site, www.malvern.co.uk, features interactive e-learning tools. Malvern's e-learning initiative delivers a varied programme of Web-based particle characterization seminars and training sessions. To participate in the live Web seminars, access to a telephone line and an Internet connection is all that is required. Users can also access recorded presentations and download them to their desktop for later review.
The seminar programme includes a wide range of topics spanning all aspects of particle characterization. These include training sessions on Malvern's own systems, as well as presentations about particle characterization research.
Web Conversion Tools Simplify Tape Specification
Hosted at www.adchem.com by Adchem Corp. (Riverhead, NY, USA), an on-line conversion tool kit automatically calculates conversions unique to the tape industry to simplify product ordering. Featuring equations for roll length, area, thickness, weight, force, pricing, and other factors, the time-saving tool kit was designed with nonengineers in mind. "We specifically made the site simple to use so everyone could benefit from this tool," explains business development manager Walt Polifka. "Just enter one or two variables, hit the calculate button, and it does the rest," he says. Among other tasks, the kit can be used to determine required tape quantities and to ensure the size compatibility of tape spools with OEM machinery.
Adchem supplies a variety of adhesive tape systems, including double-coated papers, films, tissues, foams, and fabrics; transfer tapes; one-side-coated products; and specialty materials. The tapes are available with solid adhesives or solvent acrylic and rubber adhesives. Sample product applications include sterilization bags and surgical drapes.
