PRODUCT UPDATE

Wellomer GmbH

A company that commenced operation in January is focused on the development and manufacture of UV-cure adhesives and coatings to manufacturers in the medical device and other industries. Wellomer GmbH (Ludwigshafen, Germany), part of the Dr. Hönle AG group, has introduced a number of products, including solvent-free nonsensitizing UV-cure acrylic adhesives and medical-grade materials that meet the biocompatibility requirements of ISO 10993-5.

"We are delighted to have received ISO approval for a number of our products for medical applications," says joint managing director Jeff Wigham. One such adhesive, UVMed 2050, is "suited for bonding many types of plastics quickly, especially when used in conjunction with UVA wavelengths from a UV point source or cold mirror UV lamp system from Hönle," says Wigham. "The cool, safe light and the adhesive's rapid deep-cure capability can help to reduce the time and cost involved in medical device assembly."

The company has recently introduced a solvent-free, nondrip, dry-surface acrylic that adheres to ferrites. The WUV 2078 adhesive withstands solder flow operations in which temperatures can reach as high as 260°C.

The company's adhesives and coatings expertise, and its partnership with Dr. Hönle AG, enable the development of "polymers and curing equipment systems that offer a combined-solution package to customers," according to joint managing director Stefanie Wellmann.
