PRODUCT UPDATE

Panacol-Elosol GmbH

Antimicrobial additives seem to be infiltrating all sorts of products, and adhesives are no exception. Vitralit BioBond adhesives, coatings, and potting materials, supplied by Panacol-Elosol GmbH (Oberursel, Germany), incorporate minute silver-powder particles to prevent contamination.

The company tested two adhesives with different concentrations of the silver additives by exposing them to Staphylococcus epidermis. The test showed that a bacteriostatic adhesive delayed the bacteria's proliferation, while a germicidal adhesive neutralized the pathogen. The adhesives' properties can be modified to meet customer-specified applications.

The company also offers a range of UV- and visible-light curing adhesives for joining stainless-steel cannulae to hubs and syringes, high-speed adhesives for bonding latex balloons to catheters, and dispensing equipment and UV lamps. By developing and producing equipment that is compatible with its adhesives, the firm is able to provide customers with complete joining solutions.

All of the company's adhesives meet USP Class VI guidelines and are certified to ISO 10993.
