PRODUCT UPDATE

Doyen Medipharm Ltd.

A four-side-seal packaging machine for high-speed pouching of electrodes, sutures, wound-care dressings, transdermal patches, surgical gloves, and other medical devices has been enhanced with a package compression system. The continuous-motion HDW machine, designed by Doyen Medipharm Ltd. (Barton, Cambs, UK), allows for up to 2 seconds of sealing dwell at web speeds attaining 1200 products per minute.

"The package compression system enables products to be compacted immediately prior to sealing, resulting in almost vacuum-like packages," explains sales director Noel Blake. Air reduction in the package reduces packaging dimensions, carton size requirements, and ultimately material, shipping, and sterilization costs, according to the firm. The feature is especially beneficial to manufacturers of drapes, wound-care dressings, and surgical gloves.

The company also supplies the 4SS Model 400, a single-lane four-side-seal packaging machine for dressings, diagnostic devices, drapes, catheters, sutures, and other items. Using heat-seal technology, it can process 50 m of material or 400 packs per minute. The equipment can also produce three-side self-seal bags for manual packaging operations.
