E-NewsGear Design on the Web
Ticona GmbH (Frankfurt, Germany) has begun offering software that can help to shorten the design process, aid the designer in evaluating the feasibility of using plastic gears for an application, and provide help designing a gear. The software, available at www.ticona-us.com/TechScvs/DesignGears.cfm, has a gear-sizing utility that generates order-of-magnitude outputs on plastic gear size and strength, and helps designers determine the number of teeth, pitch, face width, centre distance, helix angle, and other parameters. The software also provides load analyses, estimates safety factors, and aids in materials selection.
Hygenic Corp. Unveils Multilingual Site
The Hygenic Corp. (Akron, OH, USA) has globalized its Web site to include four languages. Users can now navigate the site, located at www.hygenic.com, using either English, German, Spanish, or French. Custom Motor Prototypes Designed On-line
Hurst Manufacturing (St. Louis, MO, USA) has developed a technology that allows customers to configure custom brushless dc motors on-line and receive a prototype in 48 hours. Hurst's recently launched Web site, www.hurstmfg.com, makes it easy to configure more than 6000 different NT Dynamo models. The NT Dynamo motors are powerful brushless dc motors suited for any application that demands integrated variable speed control, precision performance, or high power in a small package.
The configurator walks a customer through an easy six-step process that includes "yes" or "no" answers and pull-down menus to create a customer-specific motor and control. Once a motor is configured, the customer instantly has access to a part number, dimensional diagrams, and technical specifications. Once an order has been placed on-line using the custom configurator, the specifications are sent immediately to the factory floor, where prototypes are assembled on the spot. The prototypes are then shipped with software, cables, and a connection kit that enables engineers to fine-tune motor performance to the application.
In order to request a quote or to order prototypes on-line, customers must first register for a free MyHurst.com account. MyHurst.com enables the customer not only to get a price quote and place an order, but also to track orders, all without searching through confusing catalogues and making repeat calls to engineers.
