PRODUCT UPDATE

Avecia Protection & Hygiene

Antimicrobial finishes enable textile manufacturers to respond to the concerns regarding hygiene, infection, and bacterial growth in the medical industry. Avecia Protection & Hygiene (Blackley, Manchester, UK) manufactures a range of antimicrobials used for both product preservation and hygienic effects. "Recent health scares in UK hospitals have attracted the attention of the media and the public, raising the issue of hygiene and cleanliness in public buildings," explains Peter Cowey, international business manager for Avecia.

Avecia's antimicrobial treatments are based on an active agent called PHMB. This agent binds to products in a unique way, making them effective and safe. The company offers the Vanquish range of broad-spectrum antifungals, antibacterials, and antialgals for plastics, sealants, and adhesives. Reputex, an antimicrobial and antifungal agent, is suited for textiles, while Proxel and Vantocil IB are available for a wide range of applications including polymer emulsions, paints, adhesives, sealants, and general wet-state preservation.
