Vacuum-deposited parylene film is suited for barrier property enhancement, surface passivation, electrical insulation, immobilization of microscopic particles, and friction reduction. Comelec (La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) applies a transparent and flexible parylene coating through a vacuum process to ensure greater coverage and control.
"We work with the vacuum process so that we can coat over and under components," says marketing manager Laurent Morriset. "We can also control the thickness of the film to suit customer specifications," he adds. The vacuum process eliminates the need for liquid phase, causing less stress on the product.
The coating is pinhole-free and is suited for pacemakers, catheters, silicone and plastic parts, MEMS, and microelectrodes.
