Gurit Heberlein Group Acquires Donegal Healthcare |
| Recently acquired by a Swiss group, Donegal Healthcare has added liquid silicone moulding to its product development capabilities. |
Donegal Healthcare Ltd. (Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, Ireland) has been acquired by Gurit Medical Business Beheer B.V. (Wattwil, Switzerland), part of the Swiss Gurit Heberlein Group. Gurit Heberlein AF, which focusses on chemical and synthetic technologies, has two main divisions: Gurit Industrial Applications and Gurit Healthcare Division. The addition of Donegal Healthcare to the healthcare division, which currently comprises Medisize BV (Hillegom, Netherlands) and Medisize CZ (Czech Republic), creates a group of three companies in Europe specializing in the development and manufacture of products for the medical technology and pharmaceutical industries.
Gurit, as a result of the acquisition, now has a third cleanroom for the manufacture of devices. Previously, Gurit mainly supplied customers in continental Europe. With the addition of Donegal Healthcare, a major supplier to British and North American customers, Gurit will be able to strengthen its geographic position.
Joe Gilmartin, managing director of Donegal Healthcare, says that the move is a positive one for the Irish company. "The combined expertise and existing synergies of the three companies will allow us to provide more comprehensive support to existing and new customers," he says. Rudolf Wehrli of the Gurit Heberlein Group adds, "With Donegal's extensive technical expertise in injection moulding, welding, and gamma sterilization, it improves the position of Gurit Medical Business as a multitechnology solution integrator for medical, diagnostic, and pharmaceutical drug-delivery devices."
In a recent press release from Donegal Healthcare Ltd., the company announced the addition of liquid silicone moulding to its capabilities for medical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological applications. Other recent developments at Donegal include the augmentation of in-house manufacturing facilities, and the addition of RF welding for the assembly of a new surgical device.
