Andrew Jones, managing director for Ireland-based Clearstream Technologies, has been selected as one of Ernst & Young's 24 nominees for its annual Entrepreneur of The Year Award. Clearstream Technologies, located in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, is a supplier of angioplasty catheters and stent-delivery systems to medical product OEMs. The awards programme, now in its fifth year in Ireland, seeks to identify and applaud individuals who positively contribute to the country's economy.
An independent panel of judges selected eight nominees for each of the three categories: Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year, Industry Entrepreneur of the Year, and International Services Entrepreneur of the Year. The medical device industry is represented in the Emerging Entrepreneur category, which includes nominees from 11 counties across the country. The winner will be selected among the three finalists in each category at an awards ceremony on 19 September. The winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2002 Award will go on to represent Ireland in the World Entrepreneur of the Year event in 2003 in Monte Carlo.
The recipient of the World Entrepreneur Award for 2002 was Germany's Stefan Vilsmeier, founder of BrainLAB GmbH (Heimstetten, Germany). The neurosurgical software entrepreneur was chosen from a selection of 22 worldwide entrepreneurs.
