Durability is another shortcoming of latex that poses a problem for some applications. "As natural-rubber tubing ages, it tends to crack and discolour," explains Tom Neilson, sales and marketing representative for Kent Elastomer Products Inc. (Kent, OH, USA). K-911 tubing rectifies this problem by using a polychloroprene sleeve that effectively blocks damaging ozone gasses and ultraviolet light. According to Nielson, this proprietary formulation extends product life by up to 300% without sacrificing the advantageous physical properties of latex tubing.

For device manufacturers, K-911 tubing features a naturally smooth finish and feel that will not fade with time. The tubing also improves hold around fittings, and decreases permeability to gas and vapour. Chemically resistant, the product is suited for use anywhere strength and shape memory are important. Colour matching is available upon request.
