PRODUCT UPDATE

TFX Medical

Customizable microcatheters are manufactured to specification to offer a range of performance characteristics. Produced with inner diameters as small as 0.014 in. and outer diameters down to 0.026 in., the tubes can be modified to offer different levels of torque control, stiffness, kink and pressure resistance, pushability, lubricity, and hardness. The catheters are supplied in polyimide, nylon, Pebax, polyurethane, and polyethylene materials. PTFE or FEP linings and tungsten and barium fillers are also available.

If desired, a variety of round and flat wires can be incorporated into the catheters' walls to influence certain aspects of device performance. With dimensions ranging from 0.0005 x 0.0025 in. to 0.001 x 0.003 in., flat wires can be used to prevent kinking. Formed from flat or round wire, braids with a density up to 250 picks per inch can increase pushability and torque transmission. Wire material options include stainless steel, nitinol, and platinum. Embeddable marker bands are also available to facilitate proper device positioning.

Suited for neuroradiology and occlusive therapy, the catheters can be employed to access small and difficult-to-reach vasculature. "Our microcatheters are great for placing miniature coils, mechanically extracting thrombi, and treating brain clots and tumors," says vice president of sales and marketing Rich Riddle.
