Encoder provides positional feedback
The AS-5020 position encoder, introduced
by Austriamicrosystems AG (Schloss Premstätten, Austria) at the MD&M West show, offers high reliability and a long mechanical lifetime. The rotary encoder device provides a binary 6-bit output signal, features small physical dimensions, and encodes at high rotational speeds. Applications for the component include position feedback for medical devices, robotics, measurement and test equipment, and switches for electronically isolated applications.
Key benefits of the encoder include noncontact switching, ease of implementation with reduced number of external components, software programming for up to 64 positions, full 360° positional data, a temperature range from –40° to 85°C, and tolerance of magnetic fields and harsh environments. "The small physical size of the AS-5020 is advantageous for medical applications," says Sieglinde Kepplinger, product marketing manager for Austriamicrosystems.
