STERILIZATION
E-beam system combines small size with flexibilityAn E-beam sterilization system for the medical device industry was introduced at the MD&M West show by Titan Scan Technologies (San Diego, CA, USA). The company reports that the PrecisionScan 500 was developed in response to customer requests for a lower-volume, smaller, on-site system offering the same tracking, documentation, and quality features included in the firm's other equipment.
Aimed at customers with up to 14,000 m3 of annual sterilization volume, the PrecisionScan 500 incorporates a linear accelerator, conveyance system, and computer control system. The unit measures only 20 ft in diameter with a normal ceiling height and can operate continuously for more than 7400 hours per year. Advantages of the PrecisionScan include nonstop processing, electricity-based technology, self-shielding, and the absence of dangerous gasses or radioactive materials. Full technical support is available from the company, which also runs a spare-parts programme.
