PRODUCT UPDATE

Ault Inc.

Two universal power supplies designed specifically for medical equipment applications have been introduced by Ault Inc. (Minneapolis, MN, USA).

The most recent addition to the company's product line, the MW160 is available in voltages of 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 16, 18, 24, and 48 V with input voltages ranging from 100 to 250 V ac. The product features regulated output with low ripple and complies with EMI and RFI standards. It measures 104 x 37 mm and stands 37 mm high. The development of this product is a result of the company's strategic decision to "reengineer products in the most popular power ranges to increase efficiencies in terms of overall product size and cost," says vice president of business development Greg Harris. "The MW160 family replaces many models that had larger footprints and older technologies."

Size reduction also informed the design of the MW116 Universal 60–90-W series power supply. Measuring 129 x 77 x 40 mm, the MW116 has applications powering MRI LCD panels, patient monitors, home-care diagnostic systems, and heart-assist blood pumps. "OEMs are designing portable equipment that can travel from the operating room to the patient's room to the patient's home," says Harris, and this product was designed to meet the rigid product requirements and safety standards of such applications. Both power supplies have the CE marking and meet TÜV, UL, CSA, and other safety requirements.
