Watchmaking firm transfers skills to medical sector

With decades of experience in the production of tiny, high-precision components for watches, La Précision (Scionzier, France) has also offered its services to medical device manufacturers since 1986. The company, which exhibited at Midest in Paris, creates components for implantable pumps, pacemakers, leads, and surgical devices, as well as dental implants, ultrasonic probes, and laparoscopic surgical devices.

La Précision boasts a total of 300 automatic and CNC machines and high-speed machining centres, as well as EDM, ECM, and laser equipment. Final operations such as cleaning and packaging are performed in cleanrooms. The company's medical product line manager reports that 70% of the machines used in the firm's medical production lines are less than three years old.

La Précision has 300 employees and is committed to programmes of continuous improvement and total quality management. Exports within Europe and to the United States represent 75% of the firm's production.
