PVC compounder increases capacity

"We invest a lot in the medical market, and it's a difficult market for suppliers to enter," says Alessandro Menini, who is in charge of export sales at EVC Compounds (Italia) S.p.A. (Argenta, Italy).

Menini adds that his company—reportedly the largest supplier of PVC in Europe, with a nameplate capacity of almost 15,000 t per year—is committed to meeting the demands of medical manufacturers. He notes that EVC recently increased the capacity of both of its medical-grade plants in Argenta, Italy, and Sins, Switzerland. Both plants are certified to ISO 9002.

Both rigid and flexible PVC are supplied in formulations that can withstand EtO, gamma, and steam sterilization. Typical applications include probes, catheters, and tubes requiring good mechanical properties. All of the firm's compounds comply with the most stringent global standards for products coming into either direct or indirect contact with the human body.
