A new line of integrated tension and compression materials testing machines for quality control was launched in September by Hounsfield Test Equipment Ltd. (Redhill, Surrey, UK). The T-series includes portable, bench-mounted, and floor-standing units. Using a single machine, tests can be conducted in tension, shear, compression, flexure, tear, peel, puncture, insertion, friction, and hundreds of other measures. Hounsfield guarantees force accuracy of 0.5% of the applied force, extension resolution of 0.0001 mm, and speed accuracy of 0.005%. "Customers can now benefit from quality technology that is reliable and accurate, and delivered at a competitive price," says a company spokesperson.

The system is operated from a standard PC under the control of proprietary QMAT XT software, which allows users to create test methods, conduct tests, view and edit results, customize and print reports, copy and paste, and save results and graphs. The system automatically saves test parameters and results, ensuring no data loss if the PC crashes or the power fails. A Binary Communication Mode ensures quick transfer of data when handling large numbers. The T-series testers are compatible with 1000+ test specimen holders, grippers, and attachments, with calibration and traceability to international and industrial testing standards, including ISO, ASTM, BS, DIN, EN, and JIS.
