"A machine vision system has to be robust, but also easy to implement and operate,"
says Kaz Naganuma, healthcare manufacturing manager for Cognex UK (Milton Keynes,
Bucks, UK). The company's In-Sight line offers OEMs machine vision packages
that can be selected according to need and budget. Cognex's optical character
verification products are built for real-world conditions, says Naganuma; the
systems verify individual characters, rather than entire strings, 
allowing
them to identify incorrect and illegible characters while tolerating normal
print variations of correct characters. The system includes a graphical font
training utility, and allows for automatic character segmentation and on-the-fly
product crossover. In-Sight also can be used for other applications, such as
to inspect caps and parts and to read identification codes.
