Baty International (Burgess Hill, W Sussex, UK) supplies a video metrology system in both fully automated and manual versions. The automated version of the Seebreez runs on Windows-based Quadra-Check 5000 software from Metronics. Software capabilities include self-programmable functions, nonlinear error correction, CNC program path optimization, and real-time statistical process control analysis. Data can be exported to a CAD system for reverse engineering, or imported from CAD to facilitate part programming. Colour video capture to hard disk aids in quality control documentation. "It's a very powerful feature to enable you to take a snapshot while you're inspecting a part, then print out that photo and include it in the inspection report for everyone to see," says David Martin, Baty's managing director.
The
Seebreez is rugged enough to ensure precise measurements even after extended
use, Martin says. The arm that holds the video camera is constructed from a
single piece of machined aircraft-quality aluminium. With a 10-to-1 zoom, the
system allows a magnification range of 27270x, and 54540x with a
2x lens. Through-the-lens, backlight, and ring light illumination is provided,
while a retractable touch probe can be ordered. Traceable calibration kits are
available for in-house certification. The Seebreez comes with free software
upgrades and a 1-year warranty.
