RF generator optimizes energy absorption

Replacing generators with ¾ 2-kW outputs, a 500-W radio-frequency (RF) welding generator features proprietary process control and feedback for immediate automated quality control. SEBRA (Tucson, AZ, USA) introduced the system at the K 2001 show.

A key feature of the compact RF generator, according to Joseph Jensen, is the quality control system. "The touch screen with graphing shows power levels going in and out," he explains. "The difference equals the amount of energy that is absorbed by the plastic." Simply monitoring the forward power won't tell you how much energy has been absorbed by the material, he adds.

Benefits of the new RF welder include increased yields, decreased cycle times, and reduced power consumption. "Compared with conventional 10-cu-ft units, the Model 3150 generator's space-saving design enables the unit to be placed under automation platforms," notes Jensen. He also points to the elimination of secondary quality control processes as a fringe benefit of the system.
