Offering symposia on lasers, biomedical optics, optoelectronic components, and imaging technologies, Photonics West 2002 will be held 19–25 January in San Jose, CA, USA. The conference will feature new technologies with applications across a wide range of industries, production processes, and products.

MD&M West Returns to Anaheim
The largest medical OEM event, Medical Design & Manufacturing West (MD&M), will be held 5–7 February in Anaheim, CA, USA. More than 24,000 visitors and 1800 exhibitors are expected at the show. The exhibit hall will feature suppliers offering a wide range of medical device manufacturing products and services. The conference, which begins on 4 February, will include sessions on materials, regulatory affairs, process validation, risk analysis, and quality control. MD&M West will be co-located with Pacific Design & Manufacturing, and PLASTEC West, a show dedicated to the plastics industry. All three shows are organized by Canon Communications llc, publisher of European Medical Device Manufacturer.

EC Vigilance System Outlined
The EC Medical Devices Vigilance System and Post Marketing Surveillance conference is to be held in Guildford, Surrey, UK, on 30–31 January. The conference will cover the role of competent authorities in incident notification and evaluation.
