Global Medical Devices Nomenclature Published by EUCOMED
EUCOMED (Brussels) recently published the Global Medical Devices Nomenclature, which is one of the world's largest standards ever created. The 740-page document lists over 13,000 terms relating to medical technologies and will constitute a unified basis for all vigilance and regulatory data exchange systems applied to the global medical device industry, according to the organization.

Accenture and Qumas Partnership Forms FDA Compliance Consultancy
Accenture (Dublin, Ireland) and Qumas (Cork, Ireland) recently established an alliance to provide pharmaceutical and device manufacturers services for compliance with US FDA's requirements for electronic records and electronic signatures (21 CFR Part 11). The partnership combines Accenture's regulation consultancy experience with Qumas's application software tools. The companies' services will allow customers to streamline their management of electronic records and ultimately reduce the time normally spent on compliance issues.

Joint Venture Formed to Develop EUV Sources
Lambda Physik AG (Göttingen, Germany) and Jenoptik AG (Jena, Germany) have entered a joint venture to develop and produce radiation sources in the extreme ultraviolet range. The new company is named Xtreme Technologies GmbH.

Bayer AG and Lyondell to Produce Propylene Oxide
A joint venture for the construction and operation of a world-scale production facility for polyurethane-based products has been set up by Bayer AG (Leverkusen, Germany) and Lyondell Chemical Co. (Houston, TX, USA). The new facility, which is to be built in Maasvlakte, Netherlands, is scheduled to be finished by 2003.
