Spotlight on Cables, Connectors, and Wires
Plastic connectors
Connectors
in a series combine 2 to 19 gold-plated contacts in a 14.5-mm-diam plug, allowing
for a high signal density and a reliable signal path. The 4032 connector series
offers IP68 protection for wet environments. Suited for miniature equipment,
the connectors accept more than 5000 mating cycles. Colour coding is offered
to distinguish between multiple connectors. W. W. Fischer S.A., Apples,
Switzerland.
Guidewires
Standard
and custom-made guidewires are supplied in bulk or single packed. Providing
sterile or nonsterile products, the company works with customers through a structured
development programme comprising process development and machine construction.
The guidewires are manufactured in a controlled, hygienic environment. Accoat
Medical, Helsingør, Denmark.
Coloured cables
Customized
colour cables are designed to facilitate assembly, especially in complicated
installations. Specific jacket colours are used to identify certain cable characteristics.
The company also prints detailed serial numbers on cable orders for tracking
potential warranty claims on equipment. Elocab Sonderkabel GmbH & Co.
KG, Georgensgmünd, Germany.
Semirigid connectors
Two
new connectors are designed for use with 0.085 and 0.141 semirigid coaxial cables.
The 50-W connectors are suited for applications with frequencies up to 18 GHz.
The RSA-3510-1-085 is a right-angle SMA male, and the RSA-3560-141 is an SMA
female bulkhead connector. The connectors are available in nickel- or gold-plated
finishes and feature PTFE insulation with gold-plated contacts. RF Connectors,
San Diego, CA, USA.
Surgical cable assemblies
Preengineered
coax cable assemblies include cable-jacket and flex-relief materials suitable
for autoclave or low-temperature sterilization processes. The assemblies were
developed to relieve product development and lead-time pressures for OEMs. Push-on
or screw-on soak caps are optional. Precision Interconnect, Dunblane,
UK.
Crimp-snap contacts
Contacts
and housing designs incorporate enhanced features that prevent improper contact
loading and provide improved contact retention. The CST-100 II housings are
supplied with polarizing tabs and locking ramps. The crimp-snap contacts are
on a 0.100-in.(2.54-mm) centreline. They mate with specified AMP MTA-100, CST
100 shrouded headers and similar competitive notched headers. Rated for 4 A
at 250 V ac, the contacts accept 22 through 26 AWG wire with a maximum wire
insulation diameter of 0.065 in. The operating temperature range is 55°
to 105°C. Tyco Electronics AMP GmbH, Bensheim, Germany.
Ferrite connector
A
ferrite connector is available with either a short or extended shield for further
EMI/RFI improvements and with or without 12° angled grounding flaps. The
connector body consists of black PBT with tin-plated copper alloy shielding.
The contact material is phosphor bronze with 50-µin. gold plating over
nickel on contacts. There is selective gold plating on the contact area. Kycon
Inc., San Jose, CA, USA.
Electronic cables
Electromedical
cable assembly is offered for manufacturers of medical devices. The company
uses automatic machines for cutting and crimping, and offers custom software
for final testing of cables. Galmar snc, Molinella (BO), Italy.
