Micromachining laser

A diode-pumped solid-state Nd:YAG industrial laser is designed for precision micromachining of metal, ceramic, and diamond. The Gator 2000 drills holes smaller than 100 µm with accuracy and speed. The laser offers a 10-kHz repetition rate, high peak power at 15 nanoseconds per pulse, and an optimized beam profile. Average output power is 10 W, with 6 W at 532 nm and 4 W at 355 nm. The operator-friendly instrument has a small 330 x 112-mm footprint and can easily be integrated into a production environment. Lambda Physik GmbH, Göttingen, Germany.

Thermoformed packaging

State-of-the-art CAD systems, CNC tooling, and cleanroom technology are used to design and produce thermoformed packaging for device OEMs. When required, precision tooling can be fabricated on short notice to meet tight delivery times. High-speed equipment in a Class 10,000 cleanroom enables the production of multicavity formings for sterile applications. Filling and sealing of blister packs are among the ancillary services offered. Phase 3 Plastics, Southampton, UK.

Material-testing equipment

Universal strength-testing machines are available in force ranges from a few grammes to 30 t. Stand-alone units that generate complete printed test reports as well as machines that operate under full PC control can be supplied. The equipment is routinely used to test such products as implants, sutures, bandages, tubing, sharps, medical gloves, and related devices. The company has developed a horizontal machine fitted with up to 10 load cells to measure the forces involved in feeding catheters into simulated arterial systems. The Testometric Company, Ltd., Rochdale, Lancs, UK.
