Founded in 1979 and acquired by Union Carbide in 1990, NuSil returned to employee ownership in 1992 to focus exclusively on silicone technology and related process development. Today, Nusil Technology comprises hundreds of research, manufacturing and engineering professionals perfecting silicones as materials of choice based on the vast, unique array of properties they provide.

The people who stand behind NuSil’s name render exceptional service with the same consistency that distinguishes the products they provide – time after time, batch after batch. Product quality is assured by the company’s Quality System, which begins with an effective design protocol and continues up the supply chain from vendor qualification through re-inspection of finished product inventories.

NuSil’s testing laboratories are staffed by highly qualified chemists and material inspection specialists. Test methods are based on ASTM and ISO test standards, and additional tests are instituted internally to meet the company’s advanced manufacturing criteria.

Testing is performed on instruments that have been calibrated to government traceability standards, and all test equipment is regularly audited and re-calibrated, if necessary, as prescribed by ISO. NuSil even builds its own test equipment for ASTM E-595 (outgassing), primarily for its own use but also for sale to others.

Furthermore, senior management conducts scheduled reviews of internal audit reports, product performance metrics and customer feedback. These assessments afford strategic insight into the on-going efficacy of company quality policy and attainment of customer and corporate quality objectives.

HEALTHCARE MATERIALS

Nusil Technology’s healthcare materials are classified as unrestricted or restricted. Unrestricted products may be considered as candidate materials for any application, including long term implantation of greater than 29 days. Usage of Nusil’s restricted products, however, is limited to external use or for short term implant applications of 29 days or less.

NuSil Technology offers a complete line of silicone materials for use in the health care industry. In 1993 NuSil Technology was uniquely positioned to respond to the availability crisis of silicone materials for use in long term implant applications in the medical device market. Well established in the medical silicone market and having firsthand knowledge of the products that were being discontinued, NuSil Technology responded to this situation by providing over 25 replacement products that are clones of discontinued originals manufactured by other companies. Masterfiles and test data compendia (including physical, chemical and biological testing) are made available on all NuSil Technology medical products to ease approval through the FDA on vendor changes, 510K's, IDE's and PMA's.

Using this expertise, NuSil Technology expanded this line of high performance silicones to offer competitively priced materials foruse in external applications or for medical devices implanted up to 29 days in the body. Many of these silicone biomaterials areused in applications requiring USP Class VI certifications. Full testing and traceability are offered on these products as well.
