Kinematic’s Matrix Series

Kinematic’s Matrix Series of systems for the development and manufacture of Rapid Diagnostic Test Strips was developed in response to demand from the test strip industry for quality, low cost instruments. Utilizing concepts developed for higher end, high volume manufacturing systems, Kinematic engineers worked to provide simple, cost effective solutions to the many challenges of test strip developers and low to moderate volume manufacturers.

The result of Kinematic’s development campaign is a line of standard and semi-custom modules which are mostly compact bench-top units and which offer flexibility, rugged design, and user friendly operator interfaces. The key features of this MatrixTM family of standard products is described briefly below.

Strip Cutting:

Matrix 1201 Membrane Cutter
Low cost rotary slitting system for membranes only
Ideal for Western Blot and similar applications

Matrix 2501 Rotary Slitting Module
Very high cutting accuracy
Very high throughput ” ideal for production scenarios

Matrix 2360 Programmable Shear
Strip width is programmable
Cuts 360 strips per minute
Ideal for development to moderate volume production scenarios

Lamination:

Matrix 2210 Universal Laminator Module
Handles multiple laminations in discrete sheet form
Easily adjusts to accommodate a variety of products

Dispensing:

The Matrix 1600^TM Reagent Dispensing Module
Low cost solution for reagent application onto lateral flow test strip products. Ease of set-up and use makes this the ideal system for product development work and moderate volumes.

Highly accurate and validatable dispense parameters
Versatile touch screen operator interface
Closed-loop control includes continuous inspection of striped lines

High Volume Test Strip Manufacturing Systems from Kinematic Automation

For nearly 15 years Kinematic has been developing and building highly engineered manufacturing systems for the diagnostic test strip industry, including high volume slitting and packaging systems, reel-to-reel lamination machines, and automated device assembly systems. Typical projects often include:

Strip Slitting and Packaging ” Vials or Foil:
Automatic infeed of laminated reagent cards or webs
Precision registration and rotary slitting into individual strips
Machine vision inspection of strips
Collection of cut strips and transfer to vials or to foil web
Automatic feeding and presentation of vials
Automatic feeding and placement of caps onto filled vials

Strip Slitting / Device Assembly

The Matrix 8100^TM Device Assembly Module
Uses many proven Kinematic technologies to provide a flexible solution for the assembly of lateral flow test strip devices. Through the incorporation of a precision, programmable card infeed drive and a flexible housing transport system, multiple products may now be assembled with minimal changeover time.
