The development of medical devices is especially challenging given the context of their usage. Our user-centered development approach starts with contextual research which immerses our designers in the context that the product is used within to gain an understanding of the environment, the users and the problems/ challenges / issues that they have with existing products. This approach can drive the development of new features /benefits which can become the basis of innovative new products.

User needs are further addressed by focusing on usability and the development of an intuitive, easy-to-use design. Usability is especially important in this arena given the large number of different devices that medical professionals must use on an occasional basis.

Nectar's development process explores a wide range of concepts in the problem / solution space which are funneled down through an iterative approach with the focus to meet the needs of the user within our client's marketing / manufacturing goals for the product. Industrial design is well integrated with mechanical design to ensure a successful realization into production. Our process also integrates with our client's FDA 510k submissions from both a documentation and prototyping / validation standpoint.

Given today's competitive market; our integrated approach also takes into account how the product fits into the client's brand. A product design language is developed that is consistent with the clients brand identity, differentiates it in the market, and enhances the overall perceived value of the product offering. This combined with a strong, user-centered design can lead to a market leading product for our clients.
