AorTech manufactures Elast-Eon™, the world's leading long-term implantable silicone-urethane copolymer. Elast-Eon's biostability is comparable to silicone while exhibiting excellent mechanical, blood contacting and flex-fatigue properties. It can be processed using conventional thermoplastic extrusion and molding techniques. A dispersion grade is also available for coating applications.

Elast-Eon Technology

Now with hundreds of thousands of human implants, US FDA Master File, multiple PMA and Japanese Ministry of Health approvals, Elast-Eon polymers are widely accepted as being the most biostable of all polyurethane materials suitable for long term implantation.

Manufactured in our ISO-certified 25,000 sq/ft facility, Elast-Eon is a patented co-polymer of urethane and siloxane. Unlike "end-group" copolymers, Elast-Eon is unique in that the siloxane molecules are an integral part of the entire polyurethane structure. Elast-Eon is extremely resistant to oxidation, a primary source of degradation inside the human body.

Elast-Eon is available in a range of physical properties. These properties can also be customized according to demands of the application. AorTech Biomaterials has a long and successful history of working with different medical device applications and customizing relevant physical properties.

AorTech produces a solution grade polymer with the same basic chemistry, mechanical and physical properties. Solution Grade Elast-Eon goes into solution at predicable rates and can be applied, with varying degrees of thickness (from 5 microns up to 250 microns), as a coating for implantable medical devices.

Extrusion

Elast-Eon has been used extensively in tube extrusion especially in the area of pacing lead insulation. It processes consistently and easily.

Components/Reaction Injection Molding

AorTech provides assistance in the form of new application development, prototyping and component supply, together with product performance data and processing support. AorTech manufacturing capabilities also include RIM processed components, which have been proven to yield very high bond strengths between Elast-Eon and a variety of other materials.
