Design Engineering

The key at ELCAN is to start with manufacturing success in mind and work backward to the optimum design.

  • Optical Design Capabilities
    Optical design is performed using state-of-the-art computational hardware in conjunction with the latest simulator software. The optical design group encompasses the areas of detailed lens design, optical thin film definition and the assembly and alignment of prototypes, and optical testing.
  • Mechanical Design Capabilities
    Our mechanical design department works closely with the optical and electronic design groups to ensure that the design of each product meets the physical, operational, and performance specifications. Production Engineering and Quality Assurance representatives are involved in the design process from the initial concept through to the final manufacturing drawings. The mechanical design group is divided into two main functional areas, one responsible for the design of pure lens systems and the other responsible for optomechanical assemblies.
  • Electrical Design Capabilities
    ELCAN has facilities to design and test analog and digital hardware and software. Projects such as high performance servo loops for military optical data storage systems, laser scanning systems, and digital projection systems have been developed.
Contract Manufacturing

ELCAN seamlessly integrates its advanced optical, mechanical and electronic capabilities to provide custom, turn-key solutions.

ELCAN's global operation has grown to a total of ELCAN Optical Technologies500,000 square feet of space, custom-designed to provide a logically organized environment for precision manufacture.

Precision spherical, aspherical and plano optics, windows, filters, mirrors and complex assemblies from 1mm to 200 mm diameter lenses are manufactured in two of North America's largest and most integrated optics manufacturing facilities in clinically clean surroundings.
