Metrigraphics Applies Electroforming Technology to Fabrication of Micro-Coils

The Metrigraphics Division of Dynamics Research Corp. is a leading worldwide supplier of ultra-high precision, custom components for the Life Sciences industry. Core technologies of electroforming, photolithography, and thin film sputtering are used to fabricate high density flex circuits with conductor line widths as small as 5 microns and 2D and 3D mechanical micro-miniature components with micron size features and sub-micron tolerances.

The very small size of our high density flex circuits allow design engineers to develop communicating transmitters and transducers directly into intravascular, subcutaneous, or implantable devices for diagnostic imaging, monitoring, or drug administration. We can fabricate micro-coils with conductor line widths and spaces as small as 5 microns. Coils can be stacked in a multi-layer configuration. Conventional multi-layer electronic circuitry can also be fabricated at the same high density. View some of our circuit applications.

Our electroforming process technology can fabricate micro-miniature, complex mechanical components for a wide variety of uses in the Life Sciences industry. Ultra-high precision nozzles are used to jet chemistry in analytical and diagnostic equipment. Micro-wells and micro-channels are used in the biotechnology industry. Using photolithography, complex micro-mechanical components with micron size features and sub-micron tolerances can be fabricated. Aspect ratios of 3D mechanical parts are available up to 5:1. These components can be fabricated from gold, nickel, nickel-cobalt, copper, or palladium. We fabricate complex, high resolution 2D patterns on a wide variety of substrates, including PZT, alumina, glass, and flexible polyimides.

A critical part of our interaction with customers is rapid applications engineering and prototyping. Our applications engineers work with customers to optimize design for functional performance, cost and high volume producibility. Prototype parts are delivered quickly, and we continue applications engineering support as customers modify and fine tune their design. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is ready for high volume production start up and future volume increases.
