Microcheck is an ISO 9002 compliant microbiology testing laboratory specializing in bacterial and microbial identification. We identify over 2300 species of G+/G- bacteria, yeasts, actinomycetes and mycobacteria. Using our 2 MIS systems, we have identified nearly 100,000 isolates. The entire staff is proud to be recognized as leading authorities in fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analysis.

Since 1988 we have supported microbiology QA/QC in the pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetics, and food industries with personal, informative service. Our rapid 4 day turnaround time is a gold standard for contract testing laboratories. Urgent STAT results are usually reported out in 48 hours. Working out of a converted physician's office in Northfield, Vermont, Mike Sinclair and I were actually ready to market our state-of-the-art lab services to the dairy industry in New England. The national economy was at a 30 year low, and biotechnology was still a mysterious new buzz word. We prepared ourselves for the challenge.. It took less than 6 months for our microbial identification lab services to enter the emerging biotech industries. We were the first contract microbiology lab in the world to offer FAME analysis, and the timing was perfect. The late eighties and early nineties had companies looking more closely at outsourcing specialized services as an option to reduce costs. At the same time, the FDA was imposing tighter regulations about characterization of recovered isolates. Business grew steadily and Microcheck gained respect as authorities in microbial analysis by FAME analysis.

Microcheck overflowed into beautiful converted 6000sq. ft. schoolhouse (circa 1890) in 1995. The classic schoolrooms are now gleaming, ISO 9002 compliant laboratories. And 12 years after the first sample was delivered, we've tripled our capacity for FAME analysis, added a dozen dedicated, skilled (and fun) employees, expanded our service menu to include NVLAP accredited proficiency test studies, preservative challenges, bioburden testing, and endotoxin testing. The expansion continues, the special projects differ from week to week, but the personal, responsive, informative service from our employees is unchanging. They are proud of their skills and their work, and I am proud of them and the company they have helped to grow.

Microcheck is a NVLAP accredited proficiency test (PT) provider. Our full volume PT standards best simulate actual drinking water samples, and analysts prefer them because they are ready-to-use. Each year we offer 10 different study dates: 8 for coliform detection methods and 2 for HPC and MFC.
