Westpak testing services include, but are not limited to:
Accelerated Aging
Shelf-life qualification of product and package systems are normally conducted per ASTM F1980 or ISO 11607. We have over 12 dedicated temperature and humidity chambers that are constantly running. Time is a critical issue for aging studies. Our chambers are ready for testing when you need them; today and everyday.
Temperature and Humidity Testing
Factors such as temperature and humidity can weaken the strength of a product or package. This test simulates hazardous environmental conditions that may be encountered during the shipping distribution environment. Protocols include ASTM D4332, ISTA, and ISO Standards.
Package Performance Testing
Challenges the physical integrity of your package system by simulating the hazards of the transportation environment. Consists of conditioning, impact, compression, and random vibration testing per ASTM D4169, ISTA, ISO, and European Specifications.
Altitude Testing
This test simulates transit via aircraft or high elevation roads where the atmospheric pressure can have adverse affects on packages/products as explained in ASTM D6653. Sealed vessels within a product or package system may be adversly affected by pressure changes at high altitude levels.
Sterile Barrier Testing
This test determines the ability of a package system to maintain a sterile condition as required by ISO 11607, ASTM E515, ASTM D3078, ASTM F1929, and ASTM F2096. The two most common leak detection tests are Bubble Emission and Die Penetration. A combination of the two tests is conducted on porous and nonporous pouches, as well as, thermoform trays.
Material Analysis
This includes peel (ASTM F88 and D3330), tensile, and burst strength (ASTM F1140) testing.
Vibration Testing
This test maps out the vibration sensitivity of the package/product and can simulate vibration hazards typically encountered during transit as explained in ASTM D999, ASTM D4728, ASTM D4169, ASTM D3580, ISTA, and various ISO and European Specifications.
Shock Testing
Shock testing is conducted in accordance with ASTM D3332 to determined the fragility of a product. This is desirable when designing an optimal package system.
Impact Testing
During transit, most packages will be subjected to impacts. This test determines the ability of a package/cushion system to protect its contents from shock hazards. Test methods include ASTM D5276, ASTM D4169, and ISTA.
Compression Testing
This test is designed to challenge the ability of a package system in sustaining compressive forces both in storage and in transit. General test methods include ASTM D642, ASTM D4577, and ISTA.
Life-Cycle Testing
Westpak conducts specialized tests on products, designed to analyze the ruggedness of the product throughout its life.
