Tech-Etch produces standard and custom EMI/RFI shielding products, flexible printed circuits, and photo etched precision parts, including parts made from materials special to the medical industry. Tech-Etch operates a Quality System that has been registered to ISO 9001:2000. Corporate headquarters and parts manufacturing are located in Plymouth, Massachusetts. EMI shielding products are manufactured in Fall River, Massachusetts. A third manufacturing facility in Litchfield, Minnesota also produces precision etched metal parts.

Photo Etched Precision Parts
Specialty materials such as Tungsten, Molybdenum, Nitinol, Titanium, Elgiloy and Polyimide have characteristics attractive to the medical industry for implants, springs, cathodes, blades, and stents. Photo etching, or chemical milling, and precision forming dies offer the flexibility of manufacturing prototype quantities and large production runs without the high cost and long lead times of hard tooling. Photo etching produces extremely fine MicroEtch® Screens used in medical filters and for extruding, separating and sizing. Polyimide haptics are photo etched for IOL lenses. Tech-Etch uses photo etching for many medical device component level parts. These include titanium face and skull reconstruction plates, pacemaker and defibrillator grids for batteries, tungsten opaque components for x-ray devices, ultrasound contact springs, points for surgical blades, stiffener and bands for valve replacement, and circuit board level EMI shielding for medical electronics applications. Photo etching is also used to make flat parts from polyimide film for non-conductive washers, screens, gaskets and insulation layers. Part thickness runs from .0005" and up. Forming, laminating, assembly and finishing are available. A 2.5 KW Mitsubishi CO₂ Pulse Laser is available for greater tolerance control with thick materials. EMI/RFI Shielding
Tech-Etch is a global supplier of EMI shielding and RF shielding products for medical device, commercial and military markets. For over 40 years, Tech-Etch has designed and manufactured both standard and custom shielding. A complete shielding line includes all sizes, shapes, compositions, mounting options and seal types. Tech-Etch's on-line and printed catalogs describe all standard and custom EMI shielding products. Metalized Fabric over Foam Core Gaskets with less than 3% compression set are offered in many profiles. BeCu Alternate Slot finger stock designs improve the gaskets overall strength. The catalog features to-scale technical drawings, compression values and metal thickness for all BeCu finger stock shielding, including Low Profile Gaskets, Soft No-Snag Fingers, Omni Contacts, Twisted Contacts, Strip Gaskets, Reverse Bend, Cylindrical and Spherical Contacts. For ease of use, it is organized by mounting option: Track, Clip-on, Snap-on, Stick-on, Hook & Stick-on, and Special mounting. Finger stock gaskets are then arranged by ascending gap Free Height size to help the design engineer locate the proper gasket. Contact rings, "D" connector gaskets, board level shielding, knitted mesh shielding (with or without optional elastomer core or environmental seal), various elastomer gasket materials including conductive foam gaskets, fan vents, filters, honeycomb vents, plus Twinseal and Trimshield gaskets are also offered. Information on material compatibility and specifications, plus compression and attenuation management makes these shielding catalogs user friendly for every design engineer. A brochure comparing all standard finger stock profiles is also available on the web site. The on-line catalog features interactive PDF sales drawings for all standard shielding profiles. These drawings show both English (inches) and Metric (mm) dimensions, and also automatically determine the correct Tech-Etch part number for error free ordering.

Flexible Circuits
Tech-Etch manufactures flexible printed circuits on polyimide substrates. We specialize in single & double-sided circuits, as well as multiayer and flex circuit assemblies. Flex circuits are built to exacting customer specifications, meeting the most demanding Medical Device, Medical Implant, Diagnostic Ultrasound, Telecommunications and Patient Monitoring applications. Capabilities include adhesiveless construction for thinner and more flexible circuits and additive processing for higher density circuits with trace and space capabilities down to .002" in production. Microvia sizes are offered down to .004" diameter for high density, 2-layer flex circuits. Selective plating of gold and tin lead enables multiple attachment methods on the same flexible circuit. Selective polyimide removal permits cantilevered and windowed leads. Alternate circuit layer materials such as beryllium copper, stainless steel and cupronickel can be used for optimum performance in unique applications. Complete SMT and thru hole component assembly services are available. Package sizes go down to 0402 & .5mm pitch. CO₂ or UV-YAG lasers are used to outline flex circuits. Advantages include minimal tooling, short lead-time and intricate outlining. All engineering, tooling, and manufacturing operations are housed in a state-of-the-art 160,000 square-foot facility in Plymouth, MA.
