Precision Extrusion, Inc. announces continuing expansion of its capabilities

At our Glens Falls, New York headquarters, highly skilled and experienced technicians manufacture a wide variety of single and multi-lumen coextruded small diameter tubing that meets or exceeds customer requirements.

Through precise computerized equipment, extruded tubing of nylons, polyurethanes, polycarbonates and engineering resins are manufactured to your precise specifications. Melt temperatures are maintained to within one degree. Screw RPM is held constant. On-line lasers monitor and maintain outside tubing diameters through automatic feedback control loops. Inside diameters and wall thickness are precisely controlled through on-line statistical-process-control. The result is high quality extruded tubing with tight tolerances.

Precision Extrusion is uniquely capable of filling your orders and meeting individual needs. Our extensive in-house tooling design and manufacturing capabilities mean fast turnaround of prototype orders often within a week. Our experienced engineers work closely with you through all stages of prototype design and development, employing the most suitable materials and manufacturing methods.

In addition to years of experience, our staff of talented and skilled men and women affords our customers a genuine enthusiasm and eagerness to manufacture the finest quality products within the shortest possible time frame.

Precision Extrusion is pleased to announce they have expanded their capabilities to now include Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) tubing. By using a patented rotating extrusion die, a biaxial orientation of the polymers occurs, overcoming the structural limitations of conventionally extruded LCP.

The grade of LCP used and the wall thickness determine the strength range of the tubing. Further manipulation of the process, including the speed of the rotating head and tubing-takeoff rate, will effect the stiffness, compressive strength, or other properties needed for a particular application. These special LCP tubes typically have twice the crush resistance of today’s conventional plastic tubing.

LCP’s advantages include the following:

  • USP Class VI approval
  • High melt (>500°F) and use (>400°F) temperatures
  • Repeatedly sterilizable by autoclave, chemical, ETO, or radiation
  • Equal or higher tensile strength (>20,000 psi) and stiffness
(2.0 million psi flexural modulus) than any competing plastic
  • Superior dielectric strength (1,100 volts/mil.)

Liquid Crystal Polymer tubes are a unique product that can provide significant cost and performance advantages for medical devices. Tubing made from LCP can be three times thinner than that formed from polycarbonate with equivalent stiffness. The manufacturer estimates that LCP tubing costs between 30 and 60% less than fiber-reinforced composite tubes with similar properties. Some examples of LCP applications include: endoscopic, laproscopic, and urological instruments.
