Lumenous Device Technologies provides laser-micromachining and premium finishing to the medical device and precision instrument industries worldwide. Experience contract manufacturing with technological mastery.

Lumenous is driving the quality trend in precision manufacturing of devices that utilize our exclusive micromachining and finishing technologies. Putting together superior engineering with over a decade of tubular laser-micromanufacturing and design expertise, Lumenous Device Technologies plays an essential role in our customers' success.

Since 1995, our team has been pioneering the field with a number of firsts:

  • The first industrialized stent cutting system,
  • The first laser-micromachining of nitinol (NiTi),
  • The first laser-micromachining of martensitic nitinol, and
  • The first viable superelastic, yet balloon-expandable, nitinol stent development.
  • Processes

  • Polishing: Material removal typically ranges from 0.005mm (0.0002") to 0.075mm (0.003") total dimensional reduction and can also be specified in mass removal. Dimensional removal is generally equivalent in thickness and width, but there are exceptions.
  • Cutting: Laser beam kerf width varies with alloy, thickness, and speed of process. A typical range is 20microns (0.0008") to 100microns (0.004"). We recommend planning on a kerf of 30microns (0.0012") if your part can accommodate it. Strut width variation typically falls within a +/-5micron (0.0002") window. Typical material thickness ranges from 25microns (0.001") to 500microns (0.020").
  • Inspection: Our quality assurance program features 100% trained operator inspection inside and out, dimensional characterization of the lot, optimized inspection certainty, documentation that goes the extra mile, and frequent process capability studies.
  • Strengths

  • Validations, ramp-ups, and qualifications often spell delays and headaches for manufacturing. By contrast, Lumenous has "wrung out" the production and validation processes to take the sting out of process validation efforts for laser cutting and post-processing.
  • Prototyping, Manufacturing, and Tech Transfer
  • Rapid Prototyping Method Program: Projects complete ahead-of-schedule; quicker and more realistic than virtual modeling; momentum that improves the design output itself; quality output and data that are ready for design verification
  • Manufacturing Documentation: We provide complete manufacturing documentation with each shipment including a Certificate of Conformance and a Process Report as a durable record that characterizes the lot. The Process Report includes statistical data about the lot and a sample image.
